Provost Jess Clark is making some pretty bad decisions, and in the end they hurt students the most. Here’s how.

  • Eliminating program chairs means it’s not clear where students go to get support and information about our programs/majors.
  • The “program viability” list that threatens cutting more programs makes going to BC feel unstable for students. What if our programs are cut?
  • Putting program manager work onto faculty instead means our professors have less time to meet with and support students.
  • Taking away faculty’s role in decision-making at the college means that administrators make decisions based on their boardroom experience, without input on what’s happening in the classrooms. The college becomes more of a business focused on the bottom line and less of an education institution focused on students.
  • High dean turnover in HSEWI has resulted in less institutional memory and more mistakes that jeopardize our accredation. For example, not paying faculty stipends to work the summer results in inadequate faculty coverage to supervise students in clinicals.

If Provost Jess Clark doesn’t come to a contract agreement with faculty, a strike could have deep impacts on students. The college decides what to do with classes, grades, and credits, but we can predict their likely actions.

  • Classes would be canceled.
  • Grades would not be entered.
  • Because the classes lack grades, credits will not be granted.

Take action now. Tell Jess Clark to come to an agreement with the faculty union, BCAHE.
